Christchurch NZ Travelling Workshop | 6 April

The Australasian Sonographers Association is pleased to bring a Obstetrics Ultrasound Travelling Workshop to Christchurch NZ.

This live scanning event is kindly presented by Specialist Sonographer and Senior Lecturer Dr Kate Russo.

Registration opens at 8.30am with introductions  at 8.45am and the event concludes at 3.00pm.

Morning tea and a light lunch are included.

ASA Obstetric Day Christchurch, Saturday April 6th

This obstetric day will cover the role and expectations of ultrasound in the first and second trimesters and will include the fetal heart, cervical screening and plenty of pathology!

Live scanning will complement the lectures to support your learning.

The day will end with a session on communication in obstetrics, which will provide guidance on how to navigate difficult conversations and breaking unexpected news.

9:00       Fetal heart: technique, tips and common pathology

10:00    Live scanning: fetal heart (model 19-23 weeks gestation)

10:30    Morning break

10:45    12-14 week ultrasound: current expectations and cases

11:45    Live scanning: 12-14 week ultrasound (model 12-14 weeks gestation)

12:15    Lunch

13:00    Second (mid) trimester ultrasound: extending the examination,

cervical screening, placenta position and pathology.

14:00    Live scanning (model 19-23 weeks gestation)

14:30    Communication in obstetrics: difficult conversations and breaking unexpected news

15:00    Workshop concludes

Speakers

Dr Kate Russo

Kate enjoys working as a senior lecturer in the master’s ultrasound program at Central Queensland University and as a specialist sonographer in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide.
Her ultrasound career started in Brisbane in 1998, where she spent five years before moving to the United Kingdom.  While in London, Kate developed her passion in fetal medicine before returning to Adelaide in 2008. 

She has a special interest in fetal echocardiography and research, completing her PhD titled ‘Maternal cardiac function in women high-risk for pre-eclampsia’ in 2020.  Kate continues to be involved with research and regularly gives presentations locally and nationally.  She is a passionate advocate for the advancement of sonographers and strives for continuous improvement in the quality of sonographer practice and person-centred care.
