Guides to consent for intimate and medical examinations
The ASA has released two essential guides for sonographers: Guide to Consent for Medical Ultrasound Examinations and Guide to Consent and Chaperones for Intimate Medical Ultrasound Examinations.
The Guide to Consent for Medical Ultrasound Examinations offers guidance on obtaining consent for medical ultrasound examinations. Its primary aim is to minimise potential harm, enhance patient satisfaction, and manage medico-legal risks.
The Guide to Consent and Chaperones for Intimate Medical Ultrasound Examinations provides best practice principles for examinations perceived as intimate by patients. By following this guide, sonographers can review their practice, improve patient safety, reduce medico-legal risks, and enhance patient outcomes. This guide is not only relevant to sonographers but also to all health professionals involved in intimate ultrasound procedures.
